Western Hills High School - Who Cares?
I was listening to one of the hosts of "Red Eye Radio" this morning (Gary McNamara). He was analyzing a story broadcast by NBC 5 Dallas-Ft. Worth that a Western Hills High School parent was filed a bullying complaint against Aledo High School which defeated Western Hills High by a score of 91 - 0.
Mr. McNamara was against the law suit saying in essence that losing, even by large margins, builds character.
What Mr. McNamara missed is the deeper issue: Privacy. i.e. minding one's own business. Just because something is printed in a news paper or broadcast over the air waves doesn't make the subject matter automatically relevant, material or worthy of discussion.
American counter-culture insists that privacy doesn't exist and, for that matter, reality doesn't exist either so everything is a matter of opinion, all opinions are equal and reality is what the majority says it is.
Nothing of course could be farther from the truth. If a tree in a forest falls and no one is around to hear it, it still made a sound; we can know things with certainty and there are universal rights and wrongs.
Mr. McNamara's analysis fails to check and instead buttresses American counter-cultural trends and if Mr. McNamara wants to confront American counter-culture and the socio-political forces that go with it he should pick his topics for discussion and analysis more carefully. You're Welcome
