Egoism Defined

Egoism means acknowledging and valuing my own existence.

Radio Show #2

"Radio Show Host:  "Ladies and gentlemen the battle in this country is not so much between Democrats and Republicans or liberals vs. conservatives as it is a daily battle between realism and idealism between American culture and American counter-culture.  The battle continues on a daily basis not just every two years during election time. Let's go to the phones.  Bob in Costa Mesa you're on with Ron." Caller:  "I was listening to Rush and he said that our politics is what shapes our country." Radio Show Host:  "Thanks for calling.  Rush is wrong.  If you listen to talk-radio you'll be led to believe that politics shapes our culture when in reality the exact opposite is true.  Ayn Rand was right when she recognized that philosophy is the foundation for all other forms of thought.  Philosophical theory begets cultural trends that influence politicians and legislation." Radio Show Host:  "Let's go to Joe in Pacific...

Radio Show #1

Radio show host:  Hi! Welcome to my show, you're on with Ron! Listener:  Hello, my name is Fred, thanks for taking my call! Radio show host: Hi Fred, what do you do for a living? Listener:  I'm a student. Radio show host:  Fine, go ahead you have 30 seconds. Listener:  Well...I...uh...had a question and a couple of comments... Radio show host:  Pick one. Listener:  Well I don't understand why I can't speak longer than 30 seconds. Radio show host:  Okay, have a nice day! Radio show host:  Ladies and gentlemen this show is my property.  The air waves belong to the people, the frequency license belongs to the station but this show belongs to me.  When I invite you to speak on my show I am, in essence, inviting you into my home.  Every one has rules for their household and so do I.  When you come on the air you need to follow the rules or leave.

Go Back!

No one in any political party is willing to say the two words that make the most sense political policy wise:  Go Back! We (the citizens of the United States) should go back economically.  More specifically we should go back to:    1.  The gold standard.  Keynes attempted to fulfill the promise of America life as outlined by Herbert Croly in his book "The Promise of American Life", of ever increasing prosperity.  Keynes theory was that by getting the federal government involved in the economy with various stimulative measures that the business cycle (boom and bust) would be eliminated and the economy would grow forever.  Speaking of boom and bust Keynes theory has been a bust.  It has been in practice now for many decades and yet the country and the world continue to experience recessions with the added consequence of deficits and debt.  Time to go back to the gold standard where the economy will be smaller but our money will be wort...

Spreaker

I have an application called Spreaker.  Spreaker allows me to podcast from my smart-phone.  This is very handy but I'm not sure what it is I should concentrate on content wise.  I have thought about reading:  current events, poetry, children's stories.  When I do decide I will have to record "on location" as I have no studio from which to record.  You're welcome.

Trump

A video surfaced the other day showing Donald Trump making childish remarks about women.  He apologized and all of his enemies began screaming for him to resign.  He didn't (much to his credit). If it is true that 24 hours constitutes a "lifetime" in politics then we have approximately 30 lifetimes to go until the election and no reason therefore to get hysterical.  You're welcome.

My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday.  I became 56 years old.  I became alarmed when I realized that in only eleven more years I will be eligible for Social Security.  Other than that it was a normal day.  I worked Lyft: $60.00 and completed my first shift (three hours) with Grubhub:  $61.00.  The best part of the day was receiving well wishes from my friends:  Ms. Sells, Ms. Miguel, Ms. Birdsong and Ms. Owens.  I am healthy, happy and my life improves every day!  Thank God!

The Philosophical basis of American Counter-Culture

Subjectivism (metaphysics) Skepticism (epistemology) Relativism (ethics) Materialism (metaphysics/ontology) Determinism (ethics)

Metaphysical Reality #6

There are no guarantees in life.

Metaphysical Reality #5

All metaphysical realities are universal.  All man made realities are common.  Man made realities are common and can be experienced universally because all man-made realities have inherent elements of metaphysical reality.  You're welcome.

Mortimer Adler Again

From The Fo ur Dimensions of Philosophy: " A sound approach to the examination of knowledge should acknowledge the existence of some knowledge to be examined. Knowing wh at can be kn own is prior to asking how we know wh at we kn ow. Using the word "epistemology" for the theory of knowledge-especially for inquiries concerning the "origin, certainty, and extent" of our knowledge-I have two things to say about this part of the philosophical enterprise. First, it should be reflexive; that is, it should examine the knowledge that we do have; it should be a knowing about our knowing. Second, being reflexive, epistemology should be posterior to metaphysics, the philosophy of nature, ethics and political theory-these and all other branches of first order philosophical knowledge; in other words, our knowing what can be known should take precedence over our knowing about our knowing. Both of these procedural points were violated in the movement that began with...

Mortimer Adler

The following is a quote from Mortimer Adler from his book The Four Dimensions of Philosophy: "...'suicidal psychologizing.'...it is also a retreat from reality. ...a retreat from the reality of the world to be known. Modern idealism begins with Kant. It is the worst of the modern errors in modern philosophy. ...The psychologizing of common experience deserves to be called suicidal; for in effect, it cuts away the very ground on which the philosopher stands. It makes experience subjective, rather than objective." You're welcome

Immigration

The idealistic of the political left are constantly trying to change the subject vis-a-vis immigration.  When someone says we should put up a wall or a fence to secure the border the opposition counters with the question:  "What do we do with all of the illegal aliens that are already here?"  Michael Medved on his radio program even went so far as to suggest that if a politician fails to answer that question then he or she has no valid position on the immigration issue.  The answer to the question is that "we" "don't do" anything with the people already here.  The American people need to make clear to the world:  No amnesty.  Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.  Then the American government needs to enforce the law.  The people that are here illegally will then have the choice to go home or stay in the United States waiting to get arrested and deported.  The individual is a moral agent and each person has the moral obligation to do the ri...

Metaphysical Reality #4

Actions have consequences. You're welcome.

Arbitrary Claims

The residents of Flint Michigan were subjected to high levels of lead in their water caused by bureaucratic ineptitude. It is ironic that the very people that were supposed to be regulating the water quality poisoned the people they were supposed to protect.  Someone on Facebook posted the message that "it is interesting that only black cities (New Orleans and now Flint) have been wiped out.  Other socialist activists have made similar claims that the poisoning of the residents of Flint was racially motivated.  No one has produced a shred of evidence that this is so.  These claims are therefore arbitrary and as Ayn Rand has said, they must be ignored.  The Governor of Michigan however has taken to attempting to refute the arbitrary and in so doing gives these claims intellectual credibility and psychological potency.  Further, the governor as an authority figure influences American culture and encourages others to make the same psycho/epistemological mista...

Metaphysical Reality #3

We have free will and therefore must choose; difficult decisions or not. You're welcome.

Metaphysical Reality #2

You can't have your cake and eat it too. You're welcome.

Police

When I was a child me and my friends would play with toy guns.  We would play indoors, outdoors and all over the neighborhood.  We played "cowboys and indians", "cops and robbers" and army games.  My parents had no fear number one, that a neighbor would call the police on us and number two, that a police officer would pull up in a squad car and shoot me or my friends dead.  My mother and grandmother could call the police with no fear of being shot by a police officer simply because they opened the front door.  Traffic officers wear a bullet-proof vest, have a 9mm sidearm and an assault-weapon on the back of their motorcycles.  Police officers today have a shoot first ask questions later mentality.  The officers get this mentality (as well as their arsenal) from their unions.  The unions get their attitude from American counter-culutre:  The ends justify the means and might makes right.  The unions and American counter-culture are not onl...
