Go Back!
No one in any political party is willing to say the two words that make the most sense political policy wise: Go Back!
We (the citizens of the United States) should go back economically. More specifically we should go back to:
We (the citizens of the United States) should go back economically. More specifically we should go back to:
1. The gold standard. Keynes attempted to fulfill the promise of America life as outlined by Herbert Croly in his book "The Promise of American Life", of ever increasing prosperity. Keynes theory was that by getting the federal government involved in the economy with various stimulative measures that the business cycle (boom and bust) would be eliminated and the economy would grow forever. Speaking of boom and bust Keynes theory has been a bust. It has been in practice now for many decades and yet the country and the world continue to experience recessions with the added consequence of deficits and debt. Time to go back to the gold standard where the economy will be smaller but our money will be worth something.
2. Public employees working in public service. Before the advent of public employee unions police officers, firemen etc. were paid as public servants and were accountable to the people that they served. Public employee unions are an inherent conflict of interest that subvert public service and political campaigns.
3. Pre-HMO healthcare. Before congress passed a bill that authorized the existence of HMOs people in need of medical care went directly to doctors not insurance companies a practice that insured competition and kept prices in check with the added bonus of keeping our emergency rooms free for real emergencies.
4. Non-profit news. Walter Cronkite was who he was because news was not for profit. Time to get rid of tabloid style news once and for all.
It's fine to experiment but when the experiment fails that failure is an indication that the presumption was not made for the status quo and so we don't keep "moving forward" we go back to the status quo. You're welcome.
